Os dias mais frescos no inverno proporcionam colheitas mais abundantes. Pelo contrário, a exposição ao calor no verão estimula a floração e reduz a produção de folhas. Por isso, no inverno semeiam-se as sementes, directamente no solo, em locais mais soalheiros e no verão escolhem-se locais mais sombreados. Podem fazer-se sementeiras ao longo de todo o ano para assegurar colheitas contínuas. A rúcula não é uma erva muito exigente, tanto cresce em solos férteis como em solos mais pobres. Regas mais abundantes proporcionam folhas tenras com sabor mais suave; regas menos frequentes intensificam o sabor picante da rúcula.

Frequent seeding all around the year ensures continuous crops. Salad rocket is not a very demanding herb, it grows well either in fertile or poor soils. Watering abundantly will provide more tender leaves and a softer flavor. Less frequent watering produces tougher leaves with a sharper flavor.
